Lovin'the NEW me!

Okay, you know that super thin and BIG bewbies are the "thing" in world. Of course all the fashions (finned and legged alike) are geared around that common look. I however got REALLY bored with the same ol' same ol' sooooooo I changed it up a bit and gave made myself a shape that has fuller curves but still allows most of the fashions in SL to look smashing on my new figure ;) Also I have to give props to LAQ for their most beautiful skin that I HAD to have and TRUTH hair that has become my newest addiction.

Anyway, YES, that's me. That is what my body looks like in world and I am oh so very happy. I will still be making my crazy fins to fit the "norm" in world, but all of my fins are easy to fit most shapes. Which FYI, for those of you who may have difficulty with the pant layer I use for my fins. If your shape is modify, 50 is the perfect hip placement for a "legged" fin. If you notice a gap, IM me, we'll figure out something ;)

Pieces

A Frankenstein inspired fin I "pieced"this mermaid together. I am really a bit crazy when it comes to my fins. Based on the idea of Frankenstein, this mermaid was put together with the remains of a shark. Quite dead herself, she comes with a very cold Gothic skin complete with stitching, but there is also a undershirt layer that can be worn with ones own skin to give it that stitched together look. Not quite the thing for the faint of heart, but really a fun unusual interpretation for the scarier side of the water.

Mami Wata

There is a upcoming hunt that I am participating in called Myths and Legends. I was excited to participate seeing that alot of the stories surrounding races get lost in the "coolness" of how they look. Being me I couldnt just do mermaids, I had to find an unusual specific one. I chose Mami Wata.

Mami Wata is a water-spirit, sometimes described as a mermaid figure, who can found throughout the western coastal regions and into central Africa. Mami Wata is described as having long dark hair, very fair skin and compelling eyes. Although she may appear to her devotees (in dreams and visions) as a beautiful mermaid, complete with tail, she is also said to walk the streets of modern African cities in the guise of a gorgeous but elusive woman. She is interested in all things contemporary: some of her favorite offerings include sweet, imported perfumes, sunglasses and Coca-Cola. Nonetheless, the spirit appears to be related to other water spirits (known in Igbo, a language of southeastern Nigeria, as ndi mmili) who have a much longer history on the continent. Mami Wata's colors are red and white. Those she afflicts with visions and temptations, and who experience her as an obsession or an illness, may wear the red of sickness and dangerous heat. Others who have a more positive orientation towards the spirit may show their blessings by wearing white. Most devotees wear a combination of red and white clothing. Mami Wata is also said to have a number of avatars on earth--mortal women who have the same look as the deity and who act as her "daughters." Mami Wata may give wealth to her devotees, her "daughters" or to her (male) spouses, but she is never known to give fertility. Some Igbo stories suggest that the fish under the waters are her children, and that she uses them as firewood.
Any skin looks great with this fin. Includes the fin, clothing, and all jewelry shown. Enjoy!

Well almost October and time to look at the darker side of our fishy selves lol. So the first of my stranger fins, I bring you Thriller!
Forgive the space between entries. I have been running around in both lives so as always I am a bit nuts.

It's HOT in them waters!

I had someone request a most unusual fin for the waters. FLAMES! So how could I resist the bright colors of reds, oranges, and yellows? The flames are more of a Hot Rod design than a more realistic approach to the flame look of the fin, and with that in mind I could not resist the urge to give the mer Ghost Flames on the tail. This flame can be worn by male, female, and child alike, but is only photographed at the moment in the female form. The release (later tonight 9/9/9) will have the optional child top included. Hope you enjoy!

Late Nights

Again I find myself playing with photos and loving the outcome. My days have been so full of insanity that I look forward to the quiet of late nights and the soft glow from my computer as it illuminates the keys. Tonight I was messing about with the idea of hiding in the depths. So I grabbed one of the new soon to be released skins and the Onyx from the jewel fin set, this is what I came up with.

Splash!

I was up late (as usual), and began messing a bit with some pics I had made of myself. Usually nights like these lead to just very little sleep. Tonight however I was pleased with the silliness that I decided to share it with you.

I love late night mess abouts :)

Fins for the whole family

I have gotten more and more requests for fins in assorted sizes which include more male and child fin designs. What most don't know it that a lot of the styles I make are really Unisex and need only slight adjustments. So to accommodate I will be adjusting many of the fins and including the accessories needed for child Av's such as adjusted tops (these can be worn by adults also) and the fins will be modifiable that need be.

I am working on a few pictures of some of the past fins to give an example of what each avatar would look like with the fin on and hope to have a demo fin in each unisex style soon. In the mean time, if I am there, don't hesitate to ask me to help. I will change shapes to model if need be, or help any troublesome adjustments.

Yes I am working on new styles still and have gotten many requests. So look for newness coming soon!

New fins, new events, new direction for Atargatis

Yes this is my blog of NEW-ness. First thing that I am going to attempt, is my new resolution to blog more regularly (cause I know I don't write near enough in here). So I hope that you will see my nuttiness a bit more often.

Second bit of new news is more fins. For those of you that have taken part in the Hunt for the Black Pearl, the gold fin is now in assorted jewel tones. Quite pretty if I do say so myself lol. But most fun is the Instant Mermaid fin. Look close at the fin and you will see why Divergence Magic calls it Eat'd.

Last bit of news has to do with the new events and direction Atargatis is taking. Yes we are still a store in which I try to come up with new ideas and designs as fast as I can, and you are always welcome to visit the Sirens Wail Tavern for the dancing and fun mixed club activities. Where Pirates and mermaids actually get along.

Striving to make the waters here a place to enjoy, learn, and interact with friends and other species. I have added an underwater sandbox and creators pavilion. If you are just starting out with some original designs, there is a small store area here just for you.

Also some exciting events will be appearing soon. At the temple we will be having story and poetry readings. This will have featured speakers and times for anyone to share their own creativity or work they enjoy.

At the observatory/creators pavilion we will be featuring select artists in world to feature their art. I am excited to tell you that Miraculous Visions by Mirac Levenque will be one of the first artists to share with us her amazing works.

Also, I will be setting up selective times to teach some building classes in the creators pavilion.

I hope to have some awareness events soon also. If there are any other things you would like to be a part of, I invite you to send me a notecard or leave a message with the mer~greeter in the store.

Well for those of you that may follow my posts, sorry its taken forever for me to re post. If you know me at all, you know that I never sit still and make lists of things to do so long, they will never be done. The picture kind of shows the insanity I love.
At the moment I have taken a pause on making fins (although I have already taken out my sketch pad again), to work on the store. I am please to say it looks wonderful. It is a bit on the modern side, but who says we mer don't have style and a modern taste ;)
Although Atargatis IS a store, I invite everyone to just come over and have a swim in the water. I did not buy the land so people would just shop, but that we can come together and enjoy eachothers company and the environment around us. We do have shallow waters here, just think of it as the Caribbean lol. They are deep enough to enjoy and have plenty of coral reefs and animals. The land is broke up into 6 areas:
1. Atargatis the store: this is where all my creations of fins and animations can be found, we are also setting up stores that others can bring their creativity
2. Atargatis Diving: here you can explore a sunken ship and its treasures. Beware of sharks ;) Rene has a beautiful shop for divers here, with an assortment of tanks and gear to choose from. Under the store is a slow development of plants and fish that we are working on.
3. The Siren's Wail Tavern: this be the place for all ye who dare to party. Its a fun area for pirates, mermaids, and those who love to have a good time. Parties and fun going on here all the time!
4. Atargatis: this is an open water area full of plants, animals and fun. We will be trying to have more events for mermaid (and divers) in this area.
5. Atargatis Observatory: This has to be one of my favorite areas. There is a glass build that allows those with legs to watch, from the safety of glass, the underwater world. On land you can see seals (and selkies) enjoying the sun. Or sit back and enjoy an island drink as the cool ocean breeze passes by.
6. Atargatis Temple: here you can swim and enjoy the surroundings or set up a special event of your own, from weddings to a social gathering. Just contact Rene Wilder or Cheran Snook for details.
Ill submit photos of the areas soon, and I will try to post more here ;)

Myths, Legends, Tales, and Folklore

When I became a mermaid of Second Life, it was not just because the tails are so beautiful. It wasn't a childhood memory of The Little Mermaid, or my deep love of the sea and all the creatures and treasures it holds. I became a mermaid from my studies of the history behind them. The beautiful tales opened my eyes to so many new stories and new twists, that I wanted to "become" them.

As I look through pages of these stories, I watch my own mermaids story unfold in Second Life. Many of the fins I create is from my interpretation of a story I have come across. In the blog post to come I plan on not only including the history of the stories, but hopefully a fin to go with them. And I hope no one becomes offended as I take some artist license and make stories of my own from them.

Steampunk Mermaid

I have always been interested in the fun inner workings of steampunk. Not only is everything very intricate, but it shows SL basic prims at their best. Plus nothing is to wild or unusual to dream up with steampunk.

I think there is so much to explore with and RP with (if you like that). SL is so wonderful about letting try new and wonderful things, and explore these fantastic worlds. Just look at me.... a mermaid!

So in my quest for something new in my line of fins, I thought of combining these two worlds together. Now for mer and legged alike, anyone can enjoy the depths of the waters with this brand new invention. filtering air to water or water to air, exploration will never be the same!

Depending on the tide and how this is excepted by others, I may be inclined to invent more and share them with our world!

Stretching my blogging fins

As a mermaid, I tend to keep mostly to myself and enjoy the cool waters of Atargatis. Always looking for new ways of entertaining myself, I tend to come up with an assortment of fins as well as furniture and custom builds. I tend to do a lot, and find SL a wonderful place to express creativity. I hope to start venturing out more and keeping you informed about all the exciting adventers I have under the waters of this large land.
